Village for the Earth: a major success for FIB

The “Earth Day – Village for the Earth” event, which took place from 10th to 13rd April at the Galoppatoio di Villa Borghese in Rome, was a remarkable success. The bocce area, particularly Lyonnaise and Petanque disciplines, saw participation ranging from young to old, mostly students, giving rise to exciting challenges and new experiences in a fun and joyful atmosphere.
As well as promoting the event, it was possible to experience the two most popular specialities in the world thanks to the help of FIB technical staff such as Lorenzo Fedele, Sanela Urbano, Lorenzo Rocca and Emanuele Rocca (who is also a FIB referee), as well as ambassadors such as Monica Scalise for pétanque and Davide Muzzatti and Andrea Lorenzetto for Lyonnaise. They helped young and old alike to discover this extremely accessible sport with a long tradition. It was a unique opportunity to have fun, learn and grow together.
In addition to Marco Giunio De Sanctis, the president of the Italian Bocce Federation, the event was attended by member of the board Francesca Di Folco and Lavinia Sciamanna, a raffa young athlete. "The FIB has many specialities. Seeing lyonnaise and Petanque together is always a success because they both demonstrate their spectacular nature, both at a high level and in the promotional phase of introducing people to this sport
“Playing bowls en plein air brings out the best in this popular sport, allowing it to reach countless enthusiasts who, unlike those who play on bocce courts, can appreciate its social, promotional and competitive value,” said De Sanctis.
The event was a prelude to the FIB's most important international event of the year: the 2025 World Petanque Championships, which will take place from 17 to 22 September in the Galoppatoio area of Villa Borghese. "This kermesse is extremely important for the Federation," De Sanctis added, "as it will breathe new life into the entire bowls movement at an international level. Petanque is the most popular discipline worldwide, and it will take place in this prestigious location.”
