More than 50 Nations hunting the 5 titles at stake in one of the most suggestive scenery all around the world. Rome has started the countdown that will lead to the Pétanque’s World Championship, one of the six specialties of bocce of the Italian Bocce Federation (FIB). The city will be busy in leading the organization of the big event with the support of the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Environment, of the Region Lazio and the Municipality of Rome. From the 17 to 22 September the area of the Galoppatoio, sited in Villa Borghese, will become the worldwide stage for the very best specialists in a sporting discipline that requires remarkable technical abilities.

Pétanque, a strongly growing and well known sport in all five continents, consists in throwing the bocce near to each other, as closely as possible, to the jack, or in bouncing the jack or the opponent’s bocce. Unlike the other specialties, Pétanque players must make their move with their feet firm into a shooting station delimited by a starting circle with a diameter set between 35-50 cm and the jack has to be thrown at a distance between 6-10 metres. The game includes several trials: single, double and triple. The World Championship of the city of Rome will offer 5 world champion’s titles: single feminine and masculine, doubles feminine and masculine and finally mixed doubles. Rome’s Pétanque World Championship represents one of the major events on the 2025 calendar of the Italian Bocce Federation - said the interim president of FIB Roberto Favre -. It is a great honor to host and to organize such an amazing event with the cooperation and the support of the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Environment and the Region of Lazio and the Municipality of Rome, to whom our thanks go. For four days Rome will become the worldwide capital city of Pétanque. Players coming from more than 50 Nations will be fascinated and enchanted by it. Also, there will be a big impact on media coverage. We will be the hosting Nation and our athletes will be the main protagonist.
